Hello Jim, Thank you for the beautiful
and wonderful rod! I was delighted to inspect the rod and then to cast
it. I own 2 other bamboo rods: 7 1/2 5wt. Winston which I
purchased in 1987 and an 8 ft. 5 wt Gary Howells which I purchased in
1988. I cast these rods to compare them to yours. Yours casts
better than the Winston and is close to the Howells. The Howells is a special
rod. Howells built it for me and I had to wait almost 2 years for
it. He was at the peak of his career. I wish I had ordered
another one. Your rod is lighter and less tiring to cast. My
thumb controls the casting motion better with the Garrison grip. I can
easily feel the rod load. The rod forms a beautiful loop. The rod
does a superb job forming the loop with a light and delicate sensation.
Is this the way an original Garrison felt? The rod definitely has its
own unique personality. I am thrilled by
the appearance, detail and finish: the burled maple spacer, the clear
windings at the guides, the green and red windings at the tip tops. I was
looking for something different and this provided it. Feel free to use my
